CDNLAO Meeting

Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) Meeting in Qatar, 1-2 November 2023

By Qatar National Library

Qatar National Library is the host for the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO). The meeting will be held on 1 & 2 November in Doha, Qatar, at the Library's premises.

The theme for the 29th CDNLAO is Collect and Engage: National Libraries and Their Collections.

National Libraries are tasked with the duty of collecting and preserving their nation's documentary heritage, the collecting often done through legal deposit laws or similar legislation. This is the defining difference between national and other libraries, and drives much of the work that we do. It is also a task that is getting more challenging given the digital era and the need for national libraries to demonstrate their value. Given the diverse backgrounds of national libraries in Asia and Oceania, the conference will explore the following broad themes:

  1. Collecting content representative of our communities (physical and digital)
  2. Preserving and making the collections accessible
  3. Activating or engaging communities with the nation's collection

The meeting will be a platform for national libraries to present their new initiatives or case studies related to a specific topic, and mutually discuss opportunities that can be leveraged, or challenges faced in fulfilling these tasks.

This conference is held in the Middle East for the first time, and to facilitate more participation the meeting will be held in hybrid format.
