International Symposium Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the National Diet Library’s Branch Library System—Innovation and the Role of the Public Sector

The National Diet Library (NDL) , as the national library under the National Diet of Japan (Japanese Parliament), operates branch libraries and annexes at agencies of the executive and judicial branches of government, through which it supports policy-makers by providing information and research materials via library services specialized in public finance and other related matter. The NDL, as the deposit library in Japan, also plays an important role in making information generated by the executive and judicial branches of government accessible to both the National Diet of Japan, i.e., the legislative branch, and the general public.

The NDL’s branch library system was established in 1948 and thus will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2018. In commemoration of this occasion, the NDL will invite five specialists from inside and outside Japan to hold an international symposium to discuss the role of the government in promoting innovation from multidisciplinary perspectives.
