Q
Are there any changes in the system renewal in January 2018?
A
The "National Diet Library Online Search and Request Service (NDL Online)" has been launched as the new system for searching for and requesting library materials and digital contents available at the NDL. At the same time, the "National Diet Library Bibliographic Records Service (NDL-Bib)", which is specialized for downloading bibliographic data made by the NDL, has been started. For details, please check the "Help" of each system. ("Help" of NDL-Bib is in Japanese only.)
Along with the launch of these new systems, the former "National Diet Library Online Public Access Catalog (NDL-OPAC)" ended its service.

User ID / Password

Q
Is it possible to continue to use the ID and password created before the renewal (before December 2017)?
A
Yes, they remain valid even after the renewal. However, you have to use capital letters when you enter a password created before Wednesday, December 27. This is because the NDL Online recognizes the difference between capital letters and small ones and your former password has been transferred with capital letters. With logging in to the NDL Online, you can change your password in "My Account". For details, please check Help 8 in the NDL Online.

A
After logging in to the NDL Online, click on "My Account", which is on the upper right of the screen. Then, click on "Change" located close to "Password" and enter the required information. At last, click on "Update" located at the bottom. If you register your e-mail address, you will get an e-mail telling you that updating has been completed. For details, please check Help 8 in the NDL Online.

Q
Why does the new system recognize the difference between capital letters and small ones?
A
In order to enhance information security, the system has been changed to recognize capitals and small letters. Besides this change, the condition of creating passwords has become stricter than before; your password should include both letters and numbers, with 8 to 20 letters. By logging in to the NDL Online, you can change your password in "My Account". For details, please check Help 8 in the NDL Online.

Q
What should I do when my account is locked due to login failure?
A
When you fail to log in five times, your account will be locked. If you wait 10 minutes, you will be able to enter the login information again. Another way is to reset your password and log in with the new one. Resetting is possible only in the case where you have registered your e-mail address in advance and you can use the e-mail account immediately. For details, please check Help 9-3 in the NDL Online.

Q
What is online user registration?
A
It is a new service for individual users, which enables them to use remote services of the NDL. Less time is needed for the registration procedures, so you can promptly apply for our remote services such as remote photoduplication service.
See Help 9 in the NDL Online for detailed information on available services. Application for online user registration can be made on the NDL Online.
If you are already a registered user of the NDL, there is no need to re-register online. If you use on-site services at the Tokyo Main Library or the Kansai-kan of the NDL after registering online, please be sure to take IDs with you to issue a user card.
