The 7th Mutual Visit Program between the National Diet Library, the National Assembly Library of Korea and the National Assembly Research Service

The seventh visit program with the National Assembly Library (NAL) of Korea and the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) was organized in Tokyo from January 11 to 12, 2017. Ms. Eun Suk Lee, Deputy Director of the Foreign Information Division, Parliamentary Information Office, NAL, and Mr. Jae Hyon Bae, Legislative Researcher at the Security and Public Administration Team, NARS, visited the National Diet Library (NDL) for this year’s program.

In the session with the NAL held on Wednesday January 11, Mr. Makoto Tanaka, Chief, Parliamentary Documents and Official Publications Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau, NDL, and Ms. Lee gave their presentations on the paper session titled "Arrangement of Public Access to Parliamentary Information." During the session, both libraries reported on the coverage of parliamentary and legislative information and services for the parliament and the people via the Internet in each of their countries.

In the session with the NARS held on January 12, Mr. Takeshi Fukuda, Land Development and Communications Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau and Mr. Bae each gave presentations under the topic "Measures against Natural Disasters." In the session, Mr. Fukuda gave a general overview of Japanese laws against disasters along with a report on the recent movements and challenges. Mr. Bae reported on the recent amendments made in Korean counter-disaster systems and prospective challenges. Both of them discussed the significance and necessity of developing effective laws against natural disasters.
