The majority of these materials are available for viewing only at the National Diet Library. A limited number of books that have been confirmed to be either in the public domain or otherwise freely accessible on the Internet as well as out-of-print or otherwise difficult-to-obtain periodicals are available via the Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries and for Individuals.

Starting in January 2024, a significant number of additional out-of-print or otherwise difficult-to-obtain materials will be made available via the Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries and for Individuals.

Please note that these materials will not appear in full-text search results. We hope to make these materials searchable at some point in the future once we have generated full text data for them using optical character recognition.

The release of these materials all but completes a project to digitalize some 300,000 books published domestically in Japan and catalogued between 1969 and 1995 thanks to an allocation in the supplementary budget for FY2021.
