The NDL provides services and support for persons with disabilities to use our materials and information.

2.1 NDL Online (National Diet Library Online Public Access Catalog)

In addition to general materials, you can search braille, large print, audio cassette, and DAISY materials that were collected by the NDL through the legal deposit system or by donation. You can request photocopies of most printed materials, if you have registered as a NDL user.

You can also search all NDL Online items with NDL Search.

2.2 Material Search for Persons with Disabilities (NDL Search)

We provide an integrated search of the following databases.

  • Data Transmission Service for Persons with Print Disabilities
    Search and download service for accessible content (accessible format copies of visual works mainly in Japanese) produced by the NDL, public libraries, and so on.
  • Union Catalog of Braille & Recorded Books in Japan
    Bibliographies and holding information of accessible materials produced by public libraries and so on
  • Sapie (external website)
    Union catalog and data transmission service of braille libraries in Japan
  • Materials for persons with disabilities available in NDL Online
  • Materials for persons with disabilities supplied by other union catalogs, such as NDL Union Catalog, Union Catalog for Children, National Union Catalog of Newspapers in Japan

etc.

2.3 Data Transmission Service for Persons with Print Disabilities

Persons with print disabilities can use (download) the following data via the internet.

  • DAISY (audio-only DAISY) of academic literature produced by the NDL
  • DAISY, braille data and plain text produced by other libraries and collected by the NDL
