- Description
- A disciple of Utagawa Kunisada I. He first worked on illustrations for gokan (combining volumes) and yomihon (illustrated novels). From the Tenpo Era (1830-1844) onward he worked on a large number of nishiki-e (brocade pictures), particularly specializing in bird's-eye view images. Known as the leading Yokohama-e (prints depicting foreigners at the port of Yokohama) artist.
