- Description
- A disciple of Utagawa Kuniyasu. Excelled in musha-e (prints of samurai or military subjects) and actor okubi-e (large-head pictures), and also worked in bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), Yokohama-e (prints depicting foreigners at the port of Yokohama) and Kaika-e (modernization pictures). He came in 2nd place to Utagawa Sadashige in the nishiki-e (brocade pictures) artist rankings of the beginning of the Meiji period.
