- Description
- Enshrines Princess Ototachibana-hime, the wife of Prince Yamatotakeru. Ototachibana-hime accompanied Yamatotakeru in his conquest of the east, however on their way to Kazusa she sacrificed herself to the sea to soothe a savage sea storm. It is said that thereafter, Yamatotakeru gathered the belongings of his wife near the forests of Azuma and built a mound dedicated to her. It is said that the Renri no Kusunoki within the grounds was a camphor tree with 2 trunks that grew from a single set of roots when the chopsticks used by Yamatotakeru where thrust into the ground. At present the tree has withered and only a portion of the roots and trunk remain.
