- Description
- The present day Kameido Tenjin Shrine. It enshrines Sugawara Michizane. The shrine began with the separation of the enshrined spirit from Dazaifu Tenman-gu Shrine in 1663, and was worshipped by the people of Edo as a god of learning. Known for the "uso kae" ritual held on January 24 and 25, which is said to allow the bad happenings of the previous year become "uso" (lies) and instead become fortuitous happenings. It was also popular as a meisho (famous place) for ume plum and fuji Japanese wisteria trees.
