Description
Matsuchiyama is a small hill located in the present day Sumida Park, which provides views of Mt. Tsukuba to the East and Mt. Fuji to the west. It is said this hill was used as a guide for ships coming into port before Honjo, Fukagawa and other areas were landfilled, and the land from here was used to construct Nihonzutsumi. Shoten-gu is enshrined on top of the hill, and had a strong following from shops and the pleasure quarters. The Imado-bashi Bridge that is at the bottom of the hill spans the lowest course of the Sanya-bori Moat and connects present day Asakusa 7 chome and Imado 1 chome.
