Chief clerk of the Mitsui family. Moved to Edo, and was adopted as KINOKUNIYA Rihachi’s son-in-law at the age of 25. He opened a money changer in 1852. He became the head of the Minomura family, which was in vassalage to the Mitsui family, and changed his name to MINOMURA Rizaemon. In 1866 he became the head of the Mitsui Goyosho and after the Meiji Restoration, he developed Mitsui as a businessman with political ties. In 1876, he established Mitsui Bank and Mitsui & Co., Ltd., and laid the foundation for the Mitsui conglomerate as president of Mitsui Bank.
