Poet. After entering Waseda University in 1904 he studied under Onoe Saishu. He published the magazine Hokuto with his fellow students. After graduating from college, he published his first collection of verses, Umi no Koe (The Voice of the Ocean), in 1908 and published Betsuri (Parting) in 1910, which earned him recognition from literary circles along with Maeda Yugure, who also studied under the same master. The poetry magazine Sosaku (Creation) published in the same year was hosted by him until his death. He loved drinking and travelling and composed masterpieces about nature.
