Description

Countess and wife of TODA Ujitaka. Born as the eldest daughter of IWAKURA Tomomi, she married TODA Ujitaka, the governor of Ogaki Domain, in 1871. She was fluent in English and proficient in dance, and was known as “the flower of Rokumeikan” along with MUTSU Ryoko. She was engaged in charity as a council member for the Aikoku Fujinkai (Patriotic Women’s Association), the Women’s Education Association, and the Volunteer Nurses Association.
