Businessman. He entered Keio University in 1870 and started working for Mitsubishi Company in 1878. In 1880, he was appointed as the manager of a trading company that FUKUZAWA Yukichi founded in collaboration with IWASAKI Yataro. In 1892, he became an executive officer of Mitsui Bank and became Senior Managing Director of Kanebuchi Spinning Company, which was affiliated with Mitsui. Later, he held executive positions at Oji Paper and other Mitsui affiliated companies, before retiring from his position in 1911. He was also known as a tea master who loved antiques, and set up a tea room, Saian, at his home.
