The Nepal National Library celebrated its 66th anniversary on January 3, 2023, with an interaction program led by the Chief Librarian, Mr. Prem Raj Adhikari. Library professionals, writers and readers were invited to discuss the modern role of the National Library in the era of information technology, and ways to utilize existing resources to provide better services. Former Chief Librarian, Mr. Dasharath Thapa, emphasized the importance of the National Library as a national pride and the responsibility of those working in the library sector. The President of the Nepal Library Association, Mr. I. P. Adhikari, thanked the National Library team for their efforts in developing the Library. He expressed concern about the reading habits of youths, emphasizing the importance of reading for librarians themselves. The Chief Guest of the program, Mr. Purna Lal Shrestha, shared his experience rebuilding the destroyed Tribhuvan University Central Library and called for collaboration for further development and better functions in the library and information fields.
During the anniversary program of the Nepal National Library, several individuals shared their experiences and insights in the library sector, including Mr. Yadab Chandra Niraula, Mr. Yagya Raj Bhatt, Mr. Suresh Kumar Yadav, Mr. Mahesh Khanal, Ms. Kendra Limbu, Ms. Parwati Nepal, Mr. Juju Bhai Dangol, Ms. Chandra Kiran Shrestha and other invitees. They discussed the current state and future paths of the National Library. On the same occasion, Ms. Indira Dali, special guest of this program, handed over the collections and furniture of the Gyanodaya Bal Library. The Chief Librarian, Mr. Prem Raj Adhikari, gave thanks to all guests and participants. He expressed gratitude towards the attendees for their presence and support in celebrating the National Library Day and also thanked all the library professionals who shared their knowledge and experience to make this day more meaningful. He highlighted the importance of the library and its role in the society and the future plans and development of the National Library. The program was facilitated by Library Assistant of the Nepal National Library, Mr. Sajiv Kumar Chaudhary.
