Terms of Use of Contents of the National Diet Library's Website

Information (including bibliographic data; hereinafter generally referred to as "Content") available on the National Diet Library's website which is provided under the domain of "ndl.go.jp" or "kodomo.go.jp" may be used on condition of the Public Data License (Version 1.0) (hereinafter referred to as "PDL1.0"), except for content to which another set of usage rules apply. In the following, however, "Information made available on this website (hereinafter referred to as Content)" in PDL1.0 shall be read as "contents"; "Important note on Public Data License (Version 1.0)" shall be read as "Important note on Public Data License (Version 1.0) related to Content of the National Diet Library Website"; and "a party other than national government" in the part of third party rights of PDL 1.0 shall be read as "a party other than the National Diet Library".

1 Examples of contents that are copyrighted by a third party

If a third party holds rights to a part of the Content, said fact may be directly or indirectly stated or indicated through source citations, but in some cases the part of the Content to which the third party holds the rights may not be clear or may not be explicitly stated. It is the responsibility of the user to check the guidance of the services and obtain consent for use from the third party or creator if needed.

  • Images of books provided by the Japan Publication Registry Office (National Diet Library Search)

2 About content where other terms of use apply (Last update: September 2, 2024)

(1) Symbol marks, logos, and characters
No one other than the National Diet Library and its employees is able to use symbol marks, logos and characters related to the National Diet Library (excepting items clearly allowed to be used, e.g. link banners, or unexpected appearances in the background of screenshots of the website for reproduction.)
(2) Pages where other terms of use directly apply
For use, please check the rules of use shown on each page.
(3) Publications published by the National Diet Library whose printed copies are available for a fee
To utilize these contents, please check "Utilizing content from the National Diet Library website" and send requests via request form.

3 About jurisdiction

In case of disputes relating to the use of the Content based on the Terms of Use, or the Terms of Use, the user agrees that the exclusive court of first instance shall be the Tokyo District Court.
