Businessperson and president of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. At the age of 13, he began an apprenticeship in the family pharmaceutical business, and in 1904 succeeded to the name Chobei V. He succeeded in importing medicines from Germany, then started producing medicines domestically, establishing Takeda Chobei Shoten Co., Ltd. in 1939. In 1943, he changed the company name to Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and retired. He gave himself the name Wakei. His management philosophy was “making medicines that work for sick people rather than making money”, and he was said to have saved Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. from a crisis.
