2021-5-28 Former NDL Director General Dr. NAGAO Makoto Has Passed Away.

We are sorry to announce that Dr. NAGAO Makoto, former director general of the National Diet Library, passed away on May 23.

We at the National Diet Library were grieved to learn of the recent death of our former director general, Dr. NAGAO Makoto.

During his career at the NDL, Dr. Nagao worked to implement both the systematic collection of Internet materials and the large-scale digitization of the library's collection as described in the Digital Age of the NDL vision. He also contributed greatly to the development of any number of other projects at the NDL, such as the electronic library, which has been a dream of the library community.
I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Nagao for his contributions and offer my sincere prayers for the repose of his soul.
