Conclusion
Nowadays, there are many opportunities to see African people in Japan. As the news “Birth of the first high-ranking sumo wrestler from the African continent” reported in 2013, many African people are active in various fields in Japan. Japanese people also travel all over Africa for various reasons, including business, diplomacy, tourism, and studying abroad. However, problems have arisen such as reports of discriminatory treatment against Africans in Japan and the spread of false images of Japan in Africa.
As we have seen, Japan and Africa have a long relationship. Just as TICAD V set “Inclusive and resilient society” as one of its major themes, building a flexible and resilient society that can embrace African people and culture may be the key in Japan to developing future relations.
