Description

The 4th son of MATSUKUMA Hoan, a domain doctor of the Saga domain, he was adopted by KAWASAKI Domei, also a doctor. He studied Western medicine at OTSUKI Bankei’s school and became a domain doctor of the Saga domain. Participated in the 1st Japanese Embassy to the United States in 1860 and the 1st Japanese Embassy to Europe in 1862 as a doctor. During his stay in Philadelphia, he received professional guidance in photography at a photo studio, and after returning to Japan, photographed the feudal lord, NABESHIMA Naomasa. In 1872, he established the Saga Prefectural Newspaper in the castle town of Saga, but it ended in misfortune. However, he devoted himself to enlightenment activities.
