Geologist. Graduated from the Department of Geology of the Imperial University of Tokyo in 1929 and got a job at the Earthquake Research Institute of the Imperial University of Tokyo. Assumed a professorship in 1943 and extensively studied stratigraphy, structural geology, geomorphology and paleontology. He also determined the crustal movements of the Cenozoic era in Japan. After going to Indonesia for research, he contracted dengue fever and died.
