Ownership stamp
The National Diet Library inherited the book collections from the Library of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors (House of Peers) and the Imperial Library. The Imperial Library dates back to the Shojaku-kan, which was founded under the Ministry of Education in 1872. Passing through many vicissitudes, it became the Imperial Library in 1897, and changed its name to the National Library in the postwar period. It was integrated into the National Diet Library as the Ueno Branch Library in April 1949.
Each book of the collection bears an ownership stamp of the period of acquisition, from which we can see in which library it was housed. Today, we use an ownership stamp set up with the name of the Library, accession number and accession date.
