  • User Registration is required to use materials (originals, microfilmed materials and DVDs).
  • To use rare books and semi-rare books, you need to submit an application at least six working days in advance. We do not accept walk-in applications for same-day use.
  • Advance reservation is required to use originals on Saturdays. (Advance reservation is not necessary to use microforms and DVDs)

For microforms and DVDs: Mon.- Sat. 9:30 am - 4:00 pm
Announcement
  1. User Registration is required to use materials (originals, microfilmed materials and DVDs).
  2. After finding a material of interest in the NDL Search or other means, please confirm the call number, fill out a call-slip, and submit it at the counter.
  3. Permission is required to use originals. Only for official study or research, or academic study or research. Please fill in an application form giving the objective and theme of the research and submit it at the counter.
  4. Materials already microfilmed or digitized are available only in microform or digitized form to preserve the originals.
  5. To use rare books and semi-rare books, you need to submit an application at least six working days in advance.
  6. Advance reservation is required to use originals on Saturdays. (Advance reservation is not necessary to use microforms and DVDs)
  7. Pencil only. Do not use erasers. Bringing any tools which could possibly damage materials is not allowed.
Photoduplication
  1. Materials that have been microfilmed or digitized are available only in microform or digitized form to preserve the originals.
  2. Only later date photoduplication is available for copying originals. Photocopies of originals cannot be received on the same day.
    Originals will be photographed and provided only by the following methods:
    • Storing the image data on DVD (Color only)
    • Printing the image data on paper (Color or Black/white)
    Special permission for photoduplication is required if copying all pages from an original is requested.
The Rare Books and Old Materials Room has reception hours during which photocopies can be requested. For more information on the photoduplication service, please see "Photoduplication Service (Tokyo Main Library)".
